Artist's Comments

I created this for my lovely Travis.

The background consists of layered newspaper clippings of words. The eye overtop is painted on with heavy body acrylic paint.

This piece is essentially a response to the difficulty we've found in expanding concepts; going further and deeper into a notion, thinking that and answer is finally within our reach, only to be brought back to where we started.

The revolving door phenomenon.

Merci! I owe Travis the conceptual credit. If it weren't for him this piece probably never would've come to be.
...dude, that shit is amazing. I love your life.

I don't need any credit.
Conceptually you had all this inside your brain anyways, I just don't think you realized it.
Thank-you for this Lovely piece of work Danika; I adore it very much so.

Although you already know my thoughts on much about this, I shall further expand on the revolving door phenomenon and how it's portrayed in this piece. Also I have another interpretation for you.

The revolving door phenomenon
The way the piece was put together reflects the concept as a whole. As when we think about different things they are all very sparse and separate, yet we know they are all the same and all belong together. This is contrasted by how each phrase cut out of the newspaper came from a different article, page, paper, thought, whatever; yet they all come together because they are all the same and they do belong together.

The eye over top of this only brings it together even more. Metaphorically it shows us that no many how broad everything may be we have the power to see it all. Although as the eye has been heavily layered with much rough texture over top it's like it's covering essential parts of things we know are there but don't allow ourselves to see.
These concepts may be the laws or rules we abide by because we has a species has accepted to be reality. Yet we know in order to see and realize the greatest things of all we need to forget about this laws of the universe, but we can't. We try to cover them up so our eyes cannot see them but they are still there.

The many swirls that stem from it, show how when we think of these things we try to blend them together to be the same, and we do it over and over and over again. We do this because we know everything is connected as well that we know without perception we are the same as everything else, as everything is one. So we mash it together in whatever manner to try to realize and appreciate this.
Expanding on this the swirls never complete a circle so it's almost like each swirl represents how far we get to understanding what everything means or doesn't mean. As we never get through the revolving door the swirl never completes a full circle even if it goes around more than once.

Man vs. Nature
There is a tree bark like texture; it gives heavy contrast to the man printing text of the newsprint. There seems to be a man vs. nature dispute. It seems as the pasted newsprint [Man] takes over the canvas [Earth] and while the newsprint is still there it's being covered back up by the paint [Nature]. It's a struggle we have today; a struggle to find balance.

Once again I'd like to thank-you for taking something I've been struggling so much with in my own life and creating a visual representation of it, for me. I couldn't be happier with it.
Also I'm very glad you had the chance to upload it to DeviantART. I hope many more people have an opportunity to really take it in.
